11 CAS students selected as OSU Seniors of Significance

Eleven College of Arts and Sciences students have been selected as Oklahoma State University Seniors of Significance for the 2020-2021 academic year by the OSU Alumni Association. The Seniors of Significance Award recognizes students who have excelled in scholarship, leadership and service to campus and community and have brought distinction to OSU.

Freemasons give CDIS clinic $283K in renewed funding

The Guthrie Scottish Rite of Freemasonry recently renewed its partnership with OSU’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders by donating $283,574 to the OSU Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic. The partnership began in 2018 when the Guthrie Scottish Rite Foundation moved its speech and language clinic operations to Stillwater’s campus and gave an initial $182,411 to the department.

Hernandez caps OSU experience as grad commencement marshal

Corina Hernandez has graduated with degrees in Communication Sciences and Disorders and Human Development and Family Science. And just this spring she added a master’s in speech language pathology. Her work as a graduate student landed her one of two university-wide Spring 2020 Honorary Graduate Commencement Marshal awards, which includes a monetary prize and the chance to lead her fellow graduates into commencement. However, because COVID-19 forced graduation to the virtual sphere, Hernandez will return in December for the latter duty.

OSU Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic offers teletherapy services

The clinic provides comprehensive diagnostic services, treatment and education regarding speech, language and feeding in children and adults in Stillwater and the surrounding communities. It offers therapy services for the following disorders: articulation, phonology, voice/resonance, cognitive-communication, aphasia, receptive and expressive language, SPEAK OUT! And LOUD Crowd programs, reading and writing, accent modification, fluency (stuttering), motor speech, swallowing/feeding, and alternative augmentative communication (AAC).

Professor’s passion for audiology, speech-language pathology spans continents

For Dr. Sabiha Parveen, it wasn’t so much a question of what she’d study, but rather how she’d go about it. So after graduating from the University of Calcutta in her home country of India and working for a year in audiology and speech-language pathology, she headed to Bowling Green State University in Ohio for postgraduate work. Although Parveen had initially wanted to focus her studies on aphasia and stroke, her mentor presented another option: Parkinson’s disease.

Oklahoma State University’s College of Arts and Sciences honored 25 of its most successful alumni Sept. 27 during the 2019 CAS Distinguished Alumni & Hall of Fame Ceremony at the Wes Watkins Center for International Trade & Development. Ardoth Hassler and Dr. George Thompson were both inducted into the Hall of Fame, while Brent Butcher and Maddy Cunningham were named Rising Stars. There were also 21 Distinguished Alumni recipients.
